Clos des Rocs, a winery with a preserved vineyard

Clos des Rocs, a 13 hectare winery with 6 hectares in Pouilly-Loché, 6 hectares in Mâcon-Loché, and a few parcels in Pouilly-Fuissé and Mâcon-Fuissé.

The “Clos des Rocs” estate takes its name from a walled, dry-stone monopole parcel located next to the winery, just 50 meters from the Loché church steeple.

A historic vineyard

The vineyard, almost entirely in one block, faces east and is located on a clay-limestone hillside at an average altitude of 270 meters.

On the reddish, stony, and shallow soil from the secondary era, the vines on the estate exceed the impressive age of 85 years, ensuring the production of high-quality wines.

The richness of our terroir

The estate is divided by a geological fault, which separates, on one side, the alluvial soils that produce the more indulgent Pouilly-Loché wines such as "4 Saisons" and "Les Barres," and on the other side, parcels planted on Jurassic limestone rock, where parcel selections like "Les Mûres" and "Le Clos des Rocs Monopole" thrive.

Biodiversity in the vineyard

In order to maintain the balance of our ecosystem and maximize biodiversity in the vineyards, the estate purchases and preserves woods adjacent to the parcels. The upkeep of hedgerows and green spaces surrounding the various lieux-dits is a priority, ensuring the conservation of natural habitats for local wildlife.

Our partnership with livestock farmers allows us to benefit from the presence of sheep. They help manage grass growth by keeping it short while naturally fertilizing the soil.

And honestly, it's much more pleasant than the noise of tractors or mowers: pruning to the gentle sound of sheep bleating in winter — what a joy!

"Implementing good viticultural practices to preserve soil biodiversity"

Concerned with preserving his environment, Olivier Giroux decided in 2006 to begin converting the estate to organic farming by implementing good viticultural practices to preserve soil biodiversity. He obtained official certification in 2014. Biodynamic trials have followed since then, and the implementation of this vision of agriculture, rooted in common-sense farming practices, has been fully in place across the estate since the fall of 2021.
